1. Leisure: Leisure is the time when you are not working or studying and can be relax and do things you enjoy. Leisure is one of the most important justification for tourism. This give individual or tourists the opportunity to enjoy themselves to the fullest while they visit resort centres.
2. Recreation: Recreation is any activity that you do for pleasure or amusement. Tourism also create room for recreation of tourists as they involved in doing things which they enjoy in the resort centers, e.g, watching football and dancing.
3. Education: One of the major justification for tourism is education. When tourists visit any places of interest or even a country, they take their time to educate themselves on the behavior, traditional and cultural life of the people. It helps them to learn on certain things which they do not know before.
Importance Or Advantages of Tourism
- Foreign exchange earning: The activities of tourism all over the world have been known to generate foreign exchange earnings to the nation. Huge taxes are generated in tourism and it has become the major source of government revenue.
- Generation of employment: Many people are engaged in tourism and such means of livelihood now generate employment to so many people.
- Provement of transport facilities: Transport facilities are improved upon when tourism is embarked upon. New vehicles are purchased, roads are tarred and other associated transport facilities are also provided.
- Increase in commercial activities: There is always an increase in commercial activities where resort centers are located. This involves the buying and selling of commodities produced in resort centers.
- Provision of infrastructure: Infrastructure are usually provided in and around the tourist centers. Such facilities include the provision of houses or hotels, pipe-borne water and electricity.
- Improved social services: Social services in many forms are usually provided to tourist in resort centers. Such social services include provision of food and drinks, wears, barbing, tailoring, banking and transportation to both the tourist and the local communities.
- Improvement in the standard of living: As a result of the visitation of tourists, the local people earn more money and this help them to improved on their standard of living.
- It fosters economic integration: Tourists also aid or fosters national and international economic integration as tourist visit a country. It helps to ensure that some economic issues are gained by both the tourist and the host community or nation.
- Development of local craft Industries: The existence of tourist centers do help the local communities to showcase their local Industries which are now developed to international levels.
- Income to individuals: As a result of the siting of tourist centers, so many people now engage themselves in so many economic activities thereby making them to generate income for themselves.
- Conservation of wildlife: The siting of tourist centers in some places like the Yankari and borgu have helped to establish some game reserves in such area.
- Development of towns: Some of these resort centers or areas which were originally villages are now developed into big towns and cities that are now popular in the country.
Disadvantages Of Tourism
- Over-dependence of a country on tourist industry is risky.
- It can lead to break down of traditional values and ways of Life of the local people.
- It can lead to the spread of diseases e.g, AIDS.
- While tourism promotes cultural exchange, it can also dilute or commercialize local traditions and customs. Over time, communities may prioritize tourist demands over preserving their authentic heritage.
- Popular tourist destinations often face resource strain, including water shortages and increased waste. Local residents sometimes compete with tourists for essential resources, leading to tensions.
